East Devon Eagles put on a much improved performance this week against Exeter Centurions and came away with an 11 try rout.
The Eagles were unlucky not to score twice in the opening 10 minutes of the game when Richard Cadywould was held up on the line and then the ball bounced out of the hands of Dave McCarthy as he went over.
However, Mark Wathes was first on the scoresheet on 13 minutes when he goose stepped through several Centurions players to touchdown wide out, Rich Cadywould converting. Centurions leveled the score with a Brent Ryan try converted by Alex Stevens.
On 25 minutes, Eagles player coach Tony Emmins crashed over near the posts, Cadywould converting, and Cadywould turned try scorer on 30 minutes when he executed a trademark killer move to go over under the posts, kicking his own conversion.

On 38 minutes Eagles James Holman sprinted down the far touchline to go over wide out, Cadywoulds conversion kick first hitting the uprights but luckily falling over the cross bar. A Cadywould superb long range penalty kick made the half time score 26-6 to the Eagles.
The Eagles were now in control of the game and from the first play of the ball, Michael Wilson called a dummy, offloaded the ball to Jack Downie who touched down wide out, Cadywould adding the extras. 15 minutes into the second half, Cadywould shimmied his way through the Centurions defence to go over under the posts, again kicking his own conversion.
Centurions Matt Coldrey scored on 23 minutes, Nathan Hardy converting but this was their last chance at increasing their score.

In the next 15 minutes, the Eagles scored a further 5 tries and looked dominant in all aspects of the game. Sean Lovett touched down under the posts, captain Dave McCarthy stepping up to kick a successful conversion. Jack Downie went over the line in the near corner but Jonathan Boltrukiewicz missed the difficult long range conversion. Cadywould kicked a high ball, caught by Lovett who offloaded to Paul Flower who made a solo sprint from halfway to touchdown under the posts, Cadywould converting. Rich King ran through the Centurions defence, passing to Cadywould and onto James Holman who broke through the tackle to score, Cadywould again adding the extras and in the last minutes of the game Wilson picked up from the scrum, out to Lovett who passed to Downie for him to run in from deep to touchdown in the corner for his third try, but the long range conversion fell short.
When referee Ian Allison blew for time, the Eagles were delighted with their 64 – 12 victory which also secured them a place in the Devon Cup Final on 9th July.
Ferocious tackling and better discipline in defence gave the Eagles the chances for attack and hopefully this form will continue throughout the season.
