East Devon Eagles put in a superb performance against Plymouth Titans and were delighted with their 48 – 22 victory.
From the start, the Eagles put their mark on the game and were unlucky not to score in the first 5 minutes when both Richard Sharp and Dave McCarthy were held up on the line. However, 8 minutes in, Eagles McCarthy played the ball out to James Holman who sprinted to touch down wide out, Rich Cadywould converting and Olly Turton prevented a Titans score with a superb try saving tackle.
On 15 minutes, Mark Wathes chipped the ball ahead, Titans defence spilled the ball and Eagles Turton gathered the ball but fell short of the line. He offloaded to McCarthy who touched down in the corner, Cadywould again adding the extras. Titans replied with a Carl Ranscombe try converted by Matt Anstis.
On the half hour, Eagles Jack Downie drew the man, offloaded to Garry Hooper who popped the ball inside to Holman to score in the corner, Cadywould converted.
37 minutes in, Titans Anstis scored a try, kicking his own conversion.

Just before half time, Cadywould broke through the middle of the Titans defence to dive over under the posts, also kicking the extra points which gave the Eagles a 22-12 lead at the break.
Straight from the kick off, Eagles Hooper scooped up loose ball, sidestepped the Titans full back to run in near the posts, Cadywoulds conversion kick hitting the upright. 5 minutes later, Turton was unlucky not to score when he received a forward pass just as he was on the line, but he was rewarded with a try wide out minutes later, but the difficult conversion went wide. Titans replied when Kyle Browne broke through the Eagles line to score an unconverted try in the far corner.
At the start of the 4th quarter, Downie received an awkward inside pass but took the ball on to touchdown near the posts, Cadywould adding the extras and within minutes, Titans Tom West touched down in the corner, Anstis converting, but the Eagles were to deny Titans any further score.
In the last 8 minutes of the game, Eagles scored 2 further converted tries to seal their victory. Downie was tackled and offloaded to Andy Melbourne who galloped 10 metres to touchdown under the posts and when Marc Briggs played the ball to Sean Lovett, Hooper was on hand to pick up the pass for a fine try under the posts, Cadywould converting both.
When referee Ian Allison blew for time, the Eagles winning score of 48 – 22 pleased the many spectators who had braved the wet weather to watch an entertaining game of rugby league.
The Eagles must take pride in their performance today with fine lines of attack and good defensive work by player coach Tony Emmins, Mike Wilson and Jonny Boltrukiewicz and Man of Steel Sean Lovett for his superb lines of running and try saving tackles.
This win will put the Eagles in good stead for the forthcoming Devon Cup Final on Wednesday 9th July when again they meet Plymouth Titans at Exmouth in a repeat of last years final.
