Devon Sharks 24 - 54 East Devon Eagles

East Devon Eagles put in another superb performance against Torquay based Devon Sharks winning 54 – 24 to keep their place at the top of the Rugby League Conference South West league.

The first 10 minutes saw Eagles Rich Cadywould score an unconverted try when he sidestepped through the Sharks defence to go over wide out and Sharks Russel Morris a try converted by Matt Jackson giving Sharks a 2 point lead, but that changed after 20 minutes.

The Eagles were then dominant in both defence and attack scoring 5 tries before half time, 3 of which Cadywould converted.

Jascha Saeck scored wide out after receiving a pass from Nathan Budd, when the ball was played from a ruck Garry Hooper brushed off his defendents and touched down under the posts, Paul Flower barged through from 10 metres to score under the posts, Jack Downie went over in the corner and just before the whistle, from 40 yards out, Cadywould chipped the ball ahead, caught his own kick and weaved through to touchdown in the corner, giving a 30 – 6 lead to the Eagles at the break.

Straight from the re-start, Dave McCarthy played the ball to Cadywould who passed out to Andy Melbourne who galloped in under the posts, Cadywould kicking the extras. For the next 15 minutes play was end to end then Sharks Morris and Joe Briggs scored a try apiece both under the posts, Jackson converting , which narrowed the gap to 36-18.

Tit for tat tries followed with Eagles captain Dave McCarthy slinking through the Sharks defence to touchdown under the posts, Cadywould converting and Sharks Morris went over near the posts, Jackson converting.

In the last 10 minutes of the game, Eagles Melbourne scored his 2nd try, Cadywould converting and just on time, the ball passed from Jonny Boltrukiewicz and Stuart Lowe and on to Cadywould who sidestepped the opposition to score his hat trick try, kicking his own conversion.
