East Devon Eagles played their last league game of the season against Exeter Centurions on a warm sunny Wednesday evening and scored 12 tries to put them safe at the top of the South West Conference league.
Eagles were on the scoresheet virtually from the kick off when Rich Cadywould chipped the ball ahead, caught the bounce and passed on outside to Jack Downie for him to go over in the corner, Cadywould converting.
15 minutes in, quick play of the ball by Marc Briggs to Mike Wilson saw him dive over under the crossbar, quickly followed by a try by Sean Lovett when skipper Dave McCarthy and Olly Turton passed the ball swiftly out to Lovett who weaved through the defence to touchdown near the posts, Cadywould converting both.
In the 15 minutes before the break, the Eagles scored 3 further tries. Cadywould took the ball on from Mark Wathes, kicked the ball high and caught mid air to crash over under the posts; Wathes picked up the ball from the scrum and slick passing to Downie saw him dodge the Centurions defence to dot the ball down between the posts and Cadywould scored his 2nd try when he sold a dummy and grounded the ball under the sticks, Cadywould converting 2, giving a half time score Eagles 34 Centurions 0
Centurions were on the scoresheet 5 minutes into the second half when slack Eagles tackling left a gap for Andy Kay to stroll over the line, Alex Stevens converting.
However, on 15 minutes Eagles Jonny Boltrukiewicz received the ball, sidestepped the Exeter defence to crash over wide out, Cadywould adding the extras, quickly followed by Wathes touching down for a try near the posts after he received a slick inside pass from Jascha Saeck but the conversion went wide.
24 minutes in, McCarthy played the ball to Mike Wilson who offloaded to Jack Westlake for him to power over the line. On the half hour, Boltrukiewicz scored his 2nd try by sidestepping the defence and going over by the posts and from the kick off, Downie took the tackle, offloaded to Tony Emmins who passed back to Downie for a touchline run and his 3rd try, Cadywould converting all 3 giving the Eagles a 62-6 lead.
Again slack Eagles defence allowed Centurions Kay to pass the ball inside to Brent Ryan for him to increase the Centurions score to 10 and just before referee Ian Allison blew for time, Eagles Olly Turton ran down the wing and went next to the corner flag but the long range conversion fell short, making a final score East Devon Eagles 66 Exeter Centurions 10
