East Devon Eagles 74 - 9 Plymouth Titans

East Devon Eagles pulled off another victory in a 13 try rout over Plymouth Titans.

Eagles, without player coach Tony Emmins and Rich Cadywould who were playing for the England Lionhearts,  were on the scoresheet straight from the kick off with a Lee Carey try in the far corner with Shaun Fayter, on his debut appearance, kicking the conversion.  Jonny Boltrukiewicz took the ball on and offloaded to Frederic Marty who was supported over the line, again Fayter adding the extra points.

On 14 minutes, from a scrum Carey made hard yards before Garry Hooper  made a solo run to touchdown under the posts but the conversion hit the upright.  Jack Westlake fought off the Titans defence to ground the ball under the posts Fayter converting and from the scrum Sean Lovett picked up the ball, played a sidestep dummy, and scored an unconverted try wide out.

On 35 minutes, Andy Melbourne galloped his way through the Titans defence, passed out to Marty and on to Mike Wilson for him to score near the uprights, Boltrukiewicz kicking the extras to give the Eagles a 32 – 0 at the break.

4 minutes into the second half saw Titans Mike Wood kick a penalty after the Eagles were penalized for a high tackle but the Eagles struck back and a slick inside pass from Lovett to Boltrukiewicz saw him power over the line under the posts and he scored again minutes later after taking a quick penalty and confusing Titans with a dummy.  On 15 minutes Paul Flower crashed over under the posts, Fayter converting all 3 to give the Eagles their half century.

Titans Tom West scored their only try of the game, converted by Wood but the Eagles were not going to allow them through again through sloppy defence.

Skipper Dave McCarthy was on a run before passing to Jascha Saeck for him to score under the posts, kicking his own conversion.  Melbourne made the hard yards before Mark Wathes took the ball on for a solo run up the middle of the park to touchdown kicking his own conversion and a good touchline run by Hooper saw him make a slick inside pass to Saeck who ran in near the posts, with Wilson stepping up for the conversion.

Just before time, Titans Gareth Williams kicked a drop goal but the last play of the game saw Saeck make a break and another solo run through the Titans defence to score his hat trick under the posts, also kicking the extras, giving the Eagles a 74 – 9 victory thus retaining top place in the League with 5 wins from 5.

Next week sees the Eagles away to Somerset Vikings.
