Exeter Centurions 16 - 30 East Devon Eagles

East Devon Eagles kept their unbeaten position at the top of the league and did the double over Exeter Centurions who fielded a full side with several new faces in the team.
With the game seeing the 2 top teams in the league in action, the Eagles were determined to keep to their winning ways.
8 minutes in, the Eagles were on the score sheet when Jack Westlake put up a high kick ahead and Jack Downie was on hand for the catch and ran in by the posts, Cadywould converted.
10 minutes later, an inside pass from Jack Downie to Mike Wilson saw him tackled just short of the line. He played the ball to skipper Dave McCarthy, who dived over the line to score, Cadywould adding the extras. An Eagles trademark set piece saw player coach Tony Emmins stroll through over the line under the posts, again Cadywould kicking the points.
Centurions scored 2 tries in the next 5 minutes from Andrew Alderman and Brent Ryan, one converted by Alex Stevens, giving the Eagles an 18-10 lead at the break.
Straight from the kick off, play moved to the Exeter line and McCarthy’s second try when the ball was played to him by Westlake, Cadywould converting.
17minutes in, Centurions made a high kick down field. Downie caught the bounce but was tackled and offloaded to Jim Holman who passed on to Cadywould who went over near the posts, kicking his own conversion.
Centurions came back on the half hour with a try by Sam Gooch, converted by Stevens, but the Eagles took the game to the final whistle and when referee Ian Waters blew for time, a 30-16 victory was theirs.
Sterling defence by Wilson, Luke Kent & Downie with hard yards being made by Paul Flower, Jonny Boltrukiewicz and excellent counter-attack by Jascha Saeck, made the Eagles never look like losing.
